You have to be Lutheran to attend a Lutheran School.
SLS accepts all faith backgrounds as part of our school, including those who do not attend a church. We are unapologetically a conservative Christian school. All children attending SLS will be taught that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God and that salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. We uphold traditional, conservative values and desire that every child have a vibrant, active faith walk with God.
Lutherans worship and/or pray to Martin Luther.
We believe that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God and is our only form of scripture. Being “Lutheran,” our congregation and school accept and teach Bible-based teachings of Martin Luther that inspired the reformation of the Christian Church in the 16th century. We believe that the Bible is the only scripture and norm for all doctrine, and that Martin Luther, while having a huge impact on history, was an imperfect man. We worship only the Godhead three in one.
The teaching of Luther and the reformers can be summarized in three short phrases: Grace alone, Faith alone, Scripture alone.
Grace alone – God loves the people of the world, even though they are sinful, rebel against Him and do not deserve His love. He sent Jesus, His Son, to love the unlovable and save the ungodly.
Faith alone – By His suffering and death as the substitute for all people of all time, Jesus purchased and won forgiveness and eternal life for them. Those who hear this Good News and believe it have the eternal life that it offers. God creates faith in Christ and gives people forgiveness through Him.
Scripture alone – The Bible is God’s inerrant and infallible Word, in which He reveals His Law and His Gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ. It is the sole rule and norm for Christian doctrine.
You have to be rich to attend a private school.
Springfield Lutheran School works hard to keep tuition costs low and make a quality, Christian education accessible for all. We also offer robust financial assistance. Many families find that our tuition is cheaper than daycare costs.
A private Christian school is not accredited and teachers aren’t qualified.
Springfield Lutheran School is accredited through the National Lutheran School Accreditation Association and the Missouri Nonpublic Schools Accreditation Association. All full-time teachers at SLS are certified through the state of Missouri and most of them hold graduate degrees. Additionally, teachers hold a Lutheran Teaching Diploma or are working through the Concordia Colloquy Program to become commissioned ministers of religion.
A smaller Christian school can’t offer the bells and whistles that other schools can offer.
SLS students participate in special area classes such as library, music, art, and PE. We offer athletic programs for students beginning in 5th grade and offer robotics leagues. Being a private school allows SLS to have more freedom and flexibility to explore and learn in new and exciting ways!
Focusing so much on the Bible means students receive a less rigorous academic program.
While Jesus Christ is at the center of all that we do, we are proud to offer our students a varied, rich curriculum program. Student assessment data indicates that our students excel in all academic areas, and we work hard to ensure that students are equipped with the tools needed to be dynamic world changers.
